The Woodham Remembers project delves into the stories behind the names on our War Memorials at St Mary’s Church.
Our memorials and commonwealth graves commemorate military personnel and civilians with connections to Woodham Ferrers who lost their lives during and in the aftermath of the First World War (1914-1918) and the Second World War (1939-1945).
Our team of volunteers have been hard at work researching and outlining the unique stories behind each and every name on our war memorials. This digital catalogue allows us to go into detail about each individual. Our eventual aim is to gather as many profiles and images as possible, giving a full picture of those commemorated and preserving their stories for generations to come.
You can access individual profiles by clicking on any of the photographs (the name of the person will be visible as you scroll over a given image). Alternatively, see the full list of individuals below.
Click on any name to see their full profile.
As we continue to populate the Woodham Remembers project, we welcome any further information or images you may be able to contribute regarding the individuals named on our memorials.
We will soon begin stage two of our research on those who served during WW1, but did not lose their lives.
If you wish to provide information, get involved in the project research, or simply keep up to date with what we are doing, please contact our Heritage Hub team via email: stmaryshh@gmail.com
The full catalogue of images and information found here on the website is accompanied by a dedicated Woodham Remembers exhibition, including interactive audio clips and relevant war era objects.
The exhibition is on semi-permanent display at St Mary’s Church and available to view on Tuesday mornings from 10am-12pm.
Please email the team before you travel.
